Fancy a pain-free way of improving your smile?

Here at Cwtch Dental Care in North Cardiff, we just love brightening people's smiles.

One of our simplest, yet most effective ways of improving your smile is teeth whitening. If you feel down in the dumps about the colour of your teeth, speak to a member of our team about our whitening options. It doesn’t hurt, you can do it at your own pace at home and it could not be simpler. It really is a confidence-booster!

First Step

  • First things first, one of our lovely dentists would need to see you for an assessment to check your teeth are suitable for our whitening procedures.
  • If they give you the thumbs up, then they will take a 3D scan of your teeth using the latest technology.
  • This scan is sent to our friends at the laboratory where they print a 3D model of your teeth and make some made-to-measure whitening trays (similar to gumshields, but thinner).

Next Step

  • Next, you have a second appointment with our dentist, who will check the trays fit and show you how to use them with our whitening products.
  • You will be advised on the best way to use the teeth whitening treatments for your situation – this might be in the daytime for a couple of hours, or overnight whilst you sleep.

Before and after teeth whitening treatment

Do I need to worry about anything with teeth whitening?

Our dentists are all professionally trained and up to date with the latest in teeth whitening technology. They will advise you on the best and safest options for you. We only offer products that we know you will be safe to use, and we make sure you understand how to do it.

Teeth whitening is not a painful treatment and as long as you follow the instructions your dentist gives to you, you can’t go wrong! Some people experience sensitivity during the whitening process; if this does happen it is usually temporary and your dentist will give you advice on how to ease it.

Why are my teeth discoloured?

There are often many reasons why our teeth look discoloured.  It is important to remember that all teeth change colour with natural ageing – the white enamel layer thins over time and reveals more of the yellow dentine layer underneath.

Of course, lots of the tooth discolouration we experience is due to our own lifestyles – tea, coffee, red wine, curry and smoking are some of the most common culprits for staining our gnashers. Sometimes teeth will also discolour due to them being knocked or even certain medicines, deficiencies or dental treatments can change their appearance. In most cases a short course of tooth whitening can really lift the colour and improve appearance.
