Beyond a scale and polish

Let our hygiene team get those teeth back to pearly white!

Coffee, tea, red wine, curry... all the things we love! Sadly, all these yummy foods and drinks can stain our teeth.  If we miss areas when we brush, then we can also get a build-up of hard tartar around our gnashers, which you can’t then just brush off. Well, we are on-hand to help: our lovely hygienist and therapist are professionally trained to clean all of this off your teeth.

How often should I see a hygienist?

Our dental team can advise you best once they have seen you. Some people are more at risk of gum disease, and others may have a diet that stains their teeth faster than the next person; and for these people seeing the hygienist every 3 months is probably best.

It may be that you just fancy a clean as you have a special occasion coming up, or you just love that fresh-breath feeling!

I can see there are different options, what should I book?

If you aren’t sure then it’s probably best to call 02922 671 858 and speak to a member of our team. Alternatively, at your examination appointment, the dentist will be able to answer any queries you may have.

We have options to suit everyone:

Traditional scale & polish

  • Our hygiene team uses their ultrasonic cleaners and finely shaped hand instruments to remove any hard debris from your teeth. and
  • They will finish with a gentle polish to remove the majority of staining you may have.
  • These scales start at 20 minutes, which is enough time for most people. However, more time can be added if the hygiene team believe they need to provide more in-depth measurements or cleaning.

Our lovely ladies will also run you through the best way to keep your teeth tip-top and clean.

Airflow stain removal

  • This is an added extra, which can be added to any basic scaling treatment.
  • For those of you with stains in hard-to-reach places, such as the gaps in-between two teeth, or around braces, or anyone who just wants a super-sparkly feel, this is the extra for you!
  • To add airflow to your scale, just ask a member of the team when booking.

It is like a pressure-wash for your teeth, with a lovely vanilla flavour! Airflow is also good for freshening up the pocketing involved in gum disease.

Periodontal treatment with the hygienist

  • For patients who are suffering from gum disease (also known as periodontal disease), our team may recommend you book in for periodontal treatment.
  • This will normally involve a thorough examination where measurements of the problems with your gums will be recorded.
  • The teeth will then be cleaned (with anaesthetic if needed).

The team will make sure they advise you of the best methods to keep things healthy!
