Ensure that you are maintaining good denture hygiene at home to minimise the risk of problems associated with your denture and underlying gums.

Clean the denture twice a day using a soft bristled tooth brush and soapy water. Clean dentures over the sink filled with water to prevent dentures breaking if dropped.

Leave dentures out overnight if possible (and store somewhere they won't get knocked off or chewed by the dog!).  If your dentures are in 24/7 then you are much more prone to infections in the skin of your mouth.

If you find that your dentures are loose, consider using a fixative such as Fixodent which can be bought from pharmacies and supermarkets.

If your denture becomes too sore to wear then the denture can be left out.  Have a rest for 24 hours and then try it again.  However if you develop an ulcer which does not heal even when the dentures are left out please contact the practice on 02922 671858.
